Chapter 1348 Fire
Chapter 1348 Fire
Sea monkey island beach.
Carmel touched the clothes and said with surprise, "Wow, amazing! Just like Conan said, wrap the clothes in a towel, step on them, and then dry them over a fire. They're almost dry now."
Conan smiled and said, "That's good. If we can find some coolant in the abandoned insulated box, we can heat it up in water and use it as a hot bag."
"I understand." Carmel did find a bag of coolant and immediately started doing as Conan had instructed.
Their conversation reached Shuichi Akai's ears.
He said with some admiration, "This kid really knows a lot."
Yuya rested his chin on his hand against the car door and said calmly, "Yes, this child has been smart since he was little."
Hideaki Akai glanced at him and said meaningfully, "You say that as if you two grew up together."
Yu smiled calmly: "Pretty much. We've known each other since we were very young. I guess you could say I've watched him grow up?"
Shuichi Akai smiled slightly but didn't ask any further questions.
He had already guessed Conan's identity, though it seemed a bit far-fetched. But since Yu didn't want to reveal it, he didn't press the matter. After all, everyone has secrets.
It is enough to know that both sides are on the same side.
Yuya glanced at Shuichi Akai and remarked, "Using Subaru Okiya's face with Shuichi Akai's voice just doesn't feel quite right."
Shuichi Akai's voice is magnetic and deep, which, combined with Subaru Okiya's somewhat sunny appearance, creates a rather subtle contrast.
Shuichi Akai smiled, pressed the voice changer on his neck, and reverted to Subaru Okiya's voice: "Then, let's switch to this voice."
"Carmel, how's your gunshot wound?"
Carmel moved his arm and said, "Emergency treatment has been done, and the bullet has been removed. There should be no major problems."
Umiju Island is frequently visited by tourists, and there is a workshop specifically for the management staff. Carmel found quite a few things here, including a first-aid kit.
Carmel let out a breath and looked up at the sky: "I have to say, I felt terrible when I first arrived on this island, but now with the sea breeze blowing, I feel much better."
Shuichi Akai and Yuya were taken aback: "Sea breeze? You're at the beach right now?"
Sensing something was off about Shuichi Akai's tone, Carmel asked, somewhat puzzled, "Yeah, is there a problem?"
Shuichi Akai shouted anxiously, "Put out the fire immediately! We can see everything clearly from the other side!"
Carmel was startled and quickly grabbed some sand to put out the fire.
As the saying goes, what you fear most is what happens; Gin witnessed this turn of events.
He braced himself against the car window with one hand, making a low thud, his eyes fixed on the distant Sea Monkey Island.
Vodka asked, somewhat puzzled, "Brother, have you discovered anything?"
Gin said coldly, "The firelight? I just saw the firelight on Sea Monkey Island go out."
Amuro said, "Could it be a campfire belonging to campers?"
Gin's eyes were icy.
He didn't think much of the fire on Sea Monkey Island at first, as tourists often camped there, but the sudden extinguishing of the fire made him feel something was wrong.
Vermouth said, "If they were tourists, why would they suddenly extinguish the campfire? Besides, at this hour, even tourists should be asleep, right?"
If they were truly tourists, they wouldn't intentionally extinguish the campfire; they would let it burn naturally until it went out on its own, rather than abruptly putting it out like this.
"Or maybe they're planning to leave?" Amuro Tooru added.
A vein bulged on Gin's forehead. "Bourbon, are you trying to go against me?"
"Just as I thought." A distorted voice came through the radio.
Gin's eyes narrowed—it was Rum!
Amuro Tooru stopped talking.
"During this period of time, the ocean currents in Tokyo Bay were flowing towards Umizaru Island. There have been cases in the past where bodies that fell into the sea were carried by the ocean currents to Umizaru Island, right?"
"The yacht is almost here. Go to the island immediately and bring back the escaped FBI agents!"
···
"Damn it, I completely forgot to remind him about this." Yuya pounded on the car door.
The camp was by the sea, and he should have warned Carmel not to live there, but as an FBI agent, shouldn't he have been at least wary?
Surprisingly, Kamal was completely unaware of this and actually started a fire on the beach.
Shuichi Akai calmly replied, "Don't worry about it. I also overlooked this point and am equally responsible."
"Carmel, is the fire out?"
Carmel replied, "I buried the fire in the sand and hid in the forest."
Shuichi Akai then asked, "Did you bring the olive oil you found at the camp?"
"I brought it, but what's the use of it?"
Shuichi Akai: "Pour olive oil on your clothes, then cover them in mud on the ground."
"Hey? I finally managed to dry these clothes!"
"This is homemade camouflage clothing. Native Americans used this method when hunting so that they could blend into the natural landscape and be less likely to be spotted."
"Yes, I understand." Cameron immediately did as instructed.
Just as he was pouring olive oil on his clothes, he suddenly heard the sound of an engine. He looked through the leaves toward the dock and was surprised to find a yacht heading toward it.
Two figures still stood inside, one burly and the other with long, flowing hair.
Carmel immediately realized what was happening and whispered, "It's those guys! They're coming to this island by boat!"
Shuichi Akai's heart sank; they had indeed seen the fire.
Carmel was at a loss: "What... what should I do now?"
Shuichi Akai calmly said, "Don't rush, Camel. If they only see a fire, they probably won't be sure if you're on the island. Put on camouflage, smear mud on your face, and hide in the forest."
"They will leave as soon as it gets light, before the staff from Umijuu Island arrive."
"Yes, I understand!" Kamal hurriedly grabbed some mud and smeared it on his face.
···
Gin and the others arrived at Umi-zaru Island by boat.
Chianti glanced at the departing yacht and asked, "Why did you make him take the boat back?"
Gin said coldly, "I'm just telling him to moor the ship a little further away and wait for orders. It would be too conspicuous to moor it directly at the dock."
Vodka asked somewhat uncertainly, "Brother, did you really see a fire on the beach here?"
Gin said confidently, "Yes, I can't be wrong."
Amuro Tooru looked around and said, "But I didn't see any signs of fire around here, but there are quite a few footprints left by campers."
Suddenly, Gin stopped and stared intently at a footprint on the beach.
He reached out to stop the people behind him to prevent them from destroying the footprints, and asked in a cold voice, "How many hours ago did the tourists come here?"
Vodka thought for a moment and said, "The last ship should have left at 4 p.m., and it's 3 a.m. now, so 11 hours have passed."
Gin stared at the footprints, a cruel smile creeping onto his lips: "As expected, that rat escaped to this island."
