Chapter 683 The Naga Occupy the Southern Island
"But not here."
She slightly furrowed her brows and shrugged.
“I can try to perform a deep arcane resonance ritual to sense the abnormal energy fluctuations that guy still has, especially the parts related to the void or powerful demons.”
"But the prerequisite is that it needs an absolutely quiet, undisturbed environment, and..."
She paused and added,
"The higher the terrain, the better."
"Does altitude also matter?"
Alvin asked the question instinctively, purely out of curiosity about the unknown.
Stella couldn't help but roll her eyes at him, her gaze seeming to say, "You're such a magic idiot."
She patiently traced lines in the air with her fingertips, as if outlining invisible energy lines, explaining, "Magic, especially the primal arcane energy that permeates nature, is not uniformly distributed in terms of flow and concentration. The higher the altitude, the farther away from certain disruptive leyline nodes it usually is, and the closer it is to the power of the stars. The energy particles tend to be purer and more fluid. This is crucial for rituals that require high concentration and precise perception, amplifying the specific signals we want to capture."
She glanced at Elwin and then retorted, "Otherwise, why do you think those mage gentlemen all want to build towers that reach into the clouds? Is it just to make themselves seem superior?"
Elwin clapped his hands upon hearing her words, suddenly realizing, "That's right! The Starwish family has several towering mage towers in their mansion in Silvermoon City. I remember that apart from the Royal Mage Tower, theirs is the tallest! So it wasn't just for show!"
Sandy thought for a moment and suggested, “This outpost island is indeed low-lying, but just south of it, in the nearby waters, there is a larger island. I remember the reconnaissance report mentioning that there is a rather high mountain on that island, with steep terrain and few people. If we only need height and quiet, that should be the best choice.”
This proposal was unanimously approved.
"Without further ado, we'll set off immediately."
Irwin made a decision.
He looked at Stella, his eyes filled with concern.
"Your injuries..."
"I'm fine,"
Stella shook her head, but her pale face showed that she had not fully recovered.
"Short-distance flights might be possible, but carrying multiple people on long journeys would probably be problematic."
"Hey, leave it to me!"
Akalitta immediately raised her hand excitedly, her face beaming with joy.
"I'll take everyone there! I guarantee it'll be fast and stable!"
She couldn't be happier to be able to display her majestic dragon form in front of Stella.
No one objected. They quickly gathered the necessary items and went to the open space next to the camp.
Akalitha walked to the center of the open space, took a deep breath, and a surge of intense energy rapidly coursed around her.
The temperature in the air suddenly rose, and with a long dragon roar, the next moment, a dazzling red light burst out from her petite body, like a small sun!
In just a few breaths, the lively red-haired girl disappeared, replaced by a magnificent red dragon with a beautiful body, shimmering scales, and exuding a powerful dragon aura and scorching heat!
She lowered her head, and her enormous dragon eyes, like those of a lava lake, looked down at the group, emitting a deep, echoing dragon roar, signaling them to come up.
"Hold on tight!"
Akalitha issued a warning, her massive dragon wings suddenly flapping—
"boom--!!!"
A powerful airflow emanated from her and spread outwards, stirring up dust and fallen leaves from the ground.
The red dragon carried the four people and easily took to the air.
The outpost island beneath our feet rapidly shrank, revealing newly built elven-style buildings, like miniature models.
The island is surrounded by azure waters, and the waves create white patterns on the shore.
"That's the island."
Alvin looked in the direction Sandys was pointing, and the target island to the south was clearly visible.
Indeed, it is several times larger than the outpost island. In the center of the island, a steep mountain covered with lush tropical vegetation pierces the sky like a giant green sword. The summit is vaguely hidden in the swirling clouds and mist, making it appear mysterious and aloof.
Akalitha adjusted her direction and flew towards the mountain peak.
However, just as they approached the island's coastline, the sharp-eyed Sandy was the first to notice something amiss.
Her sharp gaze swept across the beach and shallow water below like a hawk's, her body leaning slightly forward, her tone wary:
"Look over there! It's the Naga! What are they doing on this island?"
Everyone looked in the direction she pointed.
On the relatively flat beach and rocky area on one side of the island, some figures were clearly visible—they had humanoid upper bodies covered with slippery scales, webbed claws on their arms, and thick, serpentine tails on their lower bodies.
It was the Naga.
There were quite a few of these Nagas, about twenty or thirty in number. They seemed to be busy piling up some collected boulders and black metal components that had been transported from somewhere on the shore, clearly building the prototype of a temporary camp.
The giant red dragon in the sky is undoubtedly a huge threat.
The Naga below immediately spotted them as well.
The Naga thugs on guard immediately sounded a hoarse alarm, and all the Naga instantly stopped what they were doing, picking up their coral spears, tridents, and magic orbs inlaid with shadow runes, and assuming a battle-ready stance.
However, when the leading Naga sea witch saw that the dragon's scales were a fiery red, she seemed to pause for a moment, and then let out a few short, sharp hisses.
Upon hearing this sound, most of the Naga, though still vigilant, visibly relaxed. They looked at each other, slowly lowered their weapons, and resumed their work as if the earlier alertness had never occurred.
Only a few Nagas remained, still gripping their weapons and monitoring the movements in the air, but their hostility had greatly diminished.
"They... don't seem too afraid of us?"
Akalitasa conveyed her thoughts through the mental link with some confusion.
Elwin frowned slightly, observing the Naga's reaction below, and pondered, "These Naga should be the ones who besieged Cho'gall before. It's not that they're not afraid, but they must have learned from their companions that we've stopped fighting."
"Judging from the scale of their construction, they probably intend to establish an outpost camp here."
Shandis's face instantly darkened, her voice filled with suppressed anger: "Setting up a camp here? How far is this island from our fortress?! What are they trying to do? This is blatant provocation right under our noses!"
As the Kaldorei's sentinel general, the Naga's establishment of a stronghold so close to her newly built fortress was undoubtedly an extremely dangerous signal and an offense to her.
Alvin nodded.
“It seems we'll need to have a good talk with the commander here after we finish the ceremony. However,”
He changed the subject, patting the dragon scales beneath him.
"Business comes first, let's deal with Gugal's problem first. Stella, have you found a suitable location?"
Stellagra, who had been focused on sensing the flow of energy below, raised her hand and pointed to the summit of the highest mountain in the center of the island. There, beneath the swirling clouds, a relatively flat natural platform made of exposed rock could be vaguely seen, like a flattened crown of the mountain.
"Akali, there she is!"
Stella said.
"That platform has a relatively stable energy flow, a wide field of vision, and minimal interference, so let's land there."
"Alright! Hold on tight!"
Akalitassa responded excitedly, adjusted the angle of her wings, and began to spiral downwards.
A massive dragon shadow swept across the dense jungle below, startling a flock of birds into flight.
She controlled the descent precisely, her powerful hind claws striking the solid rock of the platform first with a dull thud, kicking up a small cloud of dust.
Then, she carefully bent down to allow the passenger on her back to get down safely.
As the group stepped onto the solitary platform atop the mountain, a strong wind immediately enveloped them, causing their clothes to flutter wildly.
Beneath my feet were hard, grayish-white rocks, and all around me were surging clouds and the boundless blue sea and green land in the distance.
It was so quiet here that only the sound of the wind could be heard, as if it were isolated from the world.
Stella closed her eyes and felt it for a moment.
"This place is perfect!"
