Chapter 691 Goblin Racetrack
Chapter 691 Goblin Racetrack
Alvin and Sandys exchanged a glance.
He saw the determination in Sandy's eyes, sighed slightly, and said no more objections.
“Nalarex,”
Erwin finally spoke, his voice steady and powerful.
"General Feathermoon and Miss Stella will stay to help you and your minotaur friends."
Naralex's eyes widened instantly, almost unable to believe his ears, and tears welled up again, but this time they were tears of joy.
"Thank you so much! With you two here, Tanika will definitely be safe and sound!"
"but,"
Alvin changed the subject,
“We are extremely pressed for time. Therefore, this operation must be swift and precise. I imagine those centaurs are similar to the centaur tribes roaming the Desolace. You should first explain in detail the terrain of Crackhoof Canyon and the centaur's defenses. Perhaps we can use our air superiority to launch a lightning-fast rescue, just like last time.”
Before Erwin could continue, Shandris stepped forward and blocked him as he was about to discuss the battle plan in detail.
"Leave the next battle plan to me to formulate and command."
Alvin paused for a moment, looking at her with some surprise: "Sands, I know you are very capable, but facing hundreds of centaurs and unfamiliar terrain, don't you really need my help to make some decisions? More people means more ideas."
Shandris's lips curled into a confident smile as she gently shook her head: "Elwin, you are an excellent leader and priest, but please don't underestimate me, nor the wisdom and strength of the Kaldorei Sentinels."
She straightened her back, her silver armor reflecting a dazzling light under the scorching sun of the Thousand Needles Stone Forest.
"I, Shandis Feathermoon, as a general in the Sentinel Force, have commanded far more defensive battles, assault battles, and jungle guerrilla warfare than you can imagine. Analyzing enemy situations, formulating tactics, and directing squads in coordinated operations—these are my areas of expertise."
Her gaze swept over Stellagossa and Green Shadow beside her, finally returning to Elwynn, her tone even more resolute: "Moreover, with Miss Stellagossa, such a powerful mage, here, dealing with a group of centaurs entrenched in the canyon will be a very straightforward process. Our goal is rescue, not annihilation, which will make things much simpler."
She paused, her tone becoming irrefutable.
"Therefore, your mission is even more important and urgent. Set off immediately for Gadgetzan! All necessary arrangements and preparations must be made before the Red Dragon Queen arrives. This is crucial to the overall situation. Leave things here to me."
Looking at Sandys' confident face, Alvin knew that what she said was true.
As a seasoned commander personally trained by Malfurion Stormrage and Tyrande Whisperwind, Shandris's military talent is beyond question.
He nodded, accepting the arrangement: "Alright, Sandy, I'll leave this to you. I trust your judgment."
He stepped forward, leaned close to Sandy's ear, and quickly added in a very low voice, "Take good care of Stella. She's just recovered from her injuries and doesn't have much experience. Don't let her push herself too hard."
Although his voice was low, Stella, with her keen senses, clearly caught the words at such close range.
Two blushes instantly rose on her cheeks, spreading all the way to her ears. A hint of embarrassment and annoyance flashed in her azure eyes. She shoved Alvin forcefully and scolded, "What nonsense are you talking about! I'm much older than you! I can take care of myself! I don't need you, nor do I need General Sandy's special care!"
She turned her face away angrily, but her slightly trembling fingertips betrayed the warmth in her heart.
Seeing this, Sandy's eyes flashed with a knowing smile. She nodded slightly to Alvin, indicating "I understand."
The plan was set, and the time for parting had arrived.
Elwynn and Green Shadow once again climbed onto Akalita's broad dragon back.
The little red dragon seemed excited to be able to continue flying, scratching its claws and letting out a low roar.
“Then, Shandis, Stella, Naralex, and our minotaur friends,”
Elwin stood on the dragon's back, waving downwards.
"Farewell! May Elune guide your arrows, and may the wind guide your steps! We await your good news in Gadgetzan! Be careful, and safety first!"
Shandris stood on the ground, right hand on her chest, giving a standard sentry salute, her voice firm and resolute: "In the name of the moonlight! We will rescue Tanika and then rendezvous with you in Gadgetzan as soon as possible. Have a safe journey!"
Stella also raised her head. Although her face was still slightly flushed, her eyes had regained their usual coolness and determination. She nodded slightly to Alvin as a farewell.
Naralex waved his arms excitedly, his voice choked with emotion: "Thank you! Thank you all! Mr. Elwin, may Cenarius bless you!"
The surrounding minotaur warriors also let out low, mournful roars of blessing and farewell, slamming their spears and totem poles together.
Amidst the expectant and farewell gazes of the crowd, the red dragon Akalitha let out a resounding roar that echoed throughout the stone forest. Her enormous wings suddenly spread out, flapping powerfully and stirring up huge gusts of air and clouds of yellow dust. Her massive body easily detached from the top of the stone pillar and soared into the clouds once more, flying southeast towards Tanaris.
After bidding farewell to their companions at Windswept Hill, Akalitha, carrying Elwin and Green Shadow, continued flying east-southeast over Thousand Needles.
The monotonous, desolate beauty of the giant loess pillars below continued for quite a long distance.
However, as they flew over a relatively flat, vast, and desolate plain, a sudden, deafening roar of engines and frantic cheers and screams suddenly came from below, shattering the tranquility of the high sky!
"Buzz—boom boom boom boom!!!" "Crunch—!!!" "Whoa!!!" "Crush them!!"
Alvin and Green Shadow were both startled by the sudden commotion and instinctively looked down.
Below, on what should have been a yellow plain with only sandstorms and drought-resistant shrubs, a huge and uniquely styled facility had suddenly appeared!
It was a huge oval track haphazardly drawn with rough wooden stakes, rusted metal plates, and lots of colorful paint that had no aesthetic appeal whatsoever!
Dust billowed on the track as several strange mechanical contraptions, which could be tentatively called "vehicles," roared and collided with each other at extremely wild speeds, emitting deafening noise!
These "vehicles" come in all shapes and sizes. Some look like boilers with wheels, some like metal boxes with propellers, and some are decorated with huge serrations and rams. Without exception, they all emit thick black smoke, and their parts seem to be on the verge of falling apart at high speeds.
The drivers of these vehicles were short, green or gray-skinned goblins wearing goggles and exaggerated helmets!
On both sides of the track, makeshift, rickety grandstands were set up and packed with enthusiastic goblin spectators who waved colorful flags and placed bets, creating an atmosphere that was almost frenzied.
Scattered around the site were numerous temporary tents, repair shops, and signs with exaggerated advertising slogans.
"This, what is this?"
Alvin stared in disbelief, pointing to the scene below that resembled a boiling anthill.
"Goblins built a racetrack in this desolate wilderness?! What are they thinking?!"
Looking down at the bizarre scene of industry and entertainment unique to goblins, Green Shadow wore an expression that was both helpless and somewhat amused. As a druid who had spent most of her time in Kalimdor, she was quite used to the goblins' various behaviors.
"This is a desert racetrack run by a goblin venture capital firm,"
Green Shadow explained in her usual gentle tone, as if introducing a peculiar natural phenomenon.
"The goblin race has an extreme fondness for business, risk, and high-efficiency entertainment. They regard machinery, speed, gambling, and explosions as the greatest pleasures and business opportunities."
She pointed to the vehicles speeding along the track, their parts flying everywhere from collisions, and even small explosions occurring: "I saw these things many years ago when I was traveling across the continent. Look at those cars, they have absolutely no safety or stability. But the goblins enjoy it. They use these extremely dangerous races to show off their skills, test new products, and most importantly—make huge bets. In their eyes, it's a thrilling and profitable 'entertainment industry'."
As Elwin listened to Green Shadow's explanation and looked down at the noisy, smoke-filled, and frenzied goblin racetrack, contrasting it with the eternally desolate and lifeless Thousand Needles surrounding him, he couldn't help but feel an extremely strong sense of absurdity and temporal disorientation.
He shook his head and sighed, "What an incomprehensible bunch of guys. Doing this in a place like this, aren't they afraid the car will fall apart or get buried by sandstorms?"
"For goblins,"
Green Shadow smiled.
"The greater the risk, the greater the profit and enjoyment. That's their philosophy of survival."
"Okay, let's come back and play again later. Let's get down to business first."
The red dragon didn't stop, carrying the two of them swiftly across this noisy and chaotic place, leaving the deafening noise behind.
Ahead, the stone pillars of the Thousand Needles gradually thinned out, and the earth began to show more of a sandy yellow hue, foreshadowing their imminent entry into a vast and harsher realm—the Tanaris Desert.
Their destination, the goblin city of Gadgetzan, was already beginning to emerge on the distant horizon.
