Chapter 588 Xie Yun's Storyline: Goodbye
The news of this great victory spread quickly throughout the capital, and the people spontaneously gathered on both sides of the street to welcome them.
Xie Jingchun, clad in silver armor, rode a tall horse, followed by thousands of soldiers, all clad in armor and wielding spears, their spirits high.
When the people saw him, they were all excited and raised their arms, shouting, "General Xie is back! It's General Xie who's back!"
"With General Xie here, the Great Jin Dynasty has nothing to worry about!"
The shouts were deafening, almost uprooting the entire imperial road.
To Xie Jingchun's left, a woman dressed in light armor sat on a white horse.
Her features were clear and bright, and her posture was as upright as a pine tree; it was Xie Yun.
Whispers quickly arose from the crowd.
"Who is that? How come there's a woman riding alongside General Xie?"
"You don't know? That's Prince Jing's eldest daughter, Miss Xie Yun! She made great contributions in the suppression of the rebellion in the Northwest this time. It's said that she even personally beheaded the enemy general!"
"Huh? A female general? There's actually a female general?"
"That's right! My cousin is in the army. He said that Miss Xie Yun can sweep away three enemies with one whip, and the enemy soldiers don't dare to get close to her!"
"Wow, that's amazing!"
royal palace.
In the palace, Gao Che sat upright on the dragon throne, his eyes filled with undisguised joy.
He smiled and spoke, his gaze falling on Xie Jingchun, "Minister Xie, this pacification of the Northwest and defense of the borders is truly a meritorious deed for the nation, and I am very pleased."
Xie Jingchun cupped his hands and solemnly said, "This great victory is all thanks to the court's skillful command and the concerted efforts of the soldiers."
"And my little sister, without her help, I'm afraid we wouldn't have been able to win such a great victory so quickly."
Upon hearing this, Gao Che looked at Xie Yun.
The girl had a cool and aloof demeanor, but her eyes held a sharp edge that was difficult to detect.
Gao Che stared at her for a moment, then said loudly, "Xie Yun is a woman who is no less capable than men. She has made great contributions in defeating the enemy during this campaign. Therefore, she is hereby appointed as General Zhenxi, and is permitted to carry a sword into the court and command a battalion of soldiers."
Xie Yun knelt down on both knees, "Thank you for your great kindness, Your Majesty."
Wangfu.
Xie Yanli and Qin Jiuwei personally hosted a banquet in the main hall to welcome Xie Jingchun and Xie Yun.
Qin Jiuwei smiled broadly, "You've all worked hard, it's good to see you back."
Everyone raised their glasses and drank together, and Xie Yun's cheeks also turned red from drinking.
Two months later, an urgent report came from the southeast coast that pirates had landed and were causing trouble, looting fishing villages and disturbing the lives of the people.
Amidst the heated discussions in the court, Xie Yun entered the palace to request permission, saying, "I am willing to lead troops to annihilate the pirates and restore peace to the people of the southeast."
The courtiers in the hall were taken aback, but Gao Che smiled and said approvingly, "Very well! Your request is granted."
Upon receiving the decree, Xie Yun led his troops south to reorganize military affairs. Less than ten days later, he set out on an expedition.
When Xie Yun led his troops to arrive, they found a small town besieged by pirates.
She immediately ordered her soldiers to form a flanking formation, while she led her elite cavalry to circle around to the back of the sea cliff and launched a surprise attack on the enemy camp under cover of night, defeating them in one battle.
The next day, as soon as dawn broke, the city gates opened wide, and the people knelt in the streets to welcome them.
Several days later, the remaining bandits fled into the forest. Xie Yun did not pursue them, but instead laid a trap to lure them in. As expected, he captured the bandit leader and seized countless weapons and provisions.
Just as the fighting subsided, Xie Yun was preparing to lead his team back home when he received news that bandits had broken out in a nearby mountain village, burning down villagers' houses and robbing people.
She immediately decided to suspend her return journey and stay in the area to eliminate the remaining bandits and reassure the people.
A few days later, several of the bandits were captured, with only one managing to escape.
The witness said that the bandit fled into Yunlin Temple at the foot of the mountain.
Xie Yun immediately led her people to the temple. After searching the area, she broke into a main hall.
Incense smoke curled up inside the temple, and in the center of the main hall stood a solemn and compassionate golden Buddha statue.
A person kneels before the Buddha, wearing a light gray monk's robe, his back as serene as a pine tree, his hands clasped together.
Xie Yun recognized him at a glance.
She had seen him before.
Just as Xie Yun was about to speak, the palace door creaked open and a young monk trotted in, his face full of excitement.
"Uncle-Master, Uncle-Master!" he called out.
Upon seeing Xie Yun again, he immediately clasped his hands in a gesture of respect, saying, "Benefactor."
Xie Yun nodded. "You mean he's your senior martial uncle?"
“Yes!” The young monk puffed out his chest. “Uncle Mingji is the most senior member of the Ming generation in this temple. He started preaching at the age of fifteen, and even people in the imperial palace invited him to preach.”
Upon hearing voices, Xiao Zhaoyuan slightly raised his eyes and looked at her through the wisps of incense smoke.
He never expected to meet her again.
Xie Yun smiled at him, "What are you doing here?"
Xiao Zhaoyuan bowed his head and clasped his hands together, his voice gentle, "Thank you, benefactor."
"If you're free tonight, could you give me a lecture on the scriptures?" Xie Yun suddenly asked.
Xiao Zhaoyuan looked up at her, not expecting her to ask that question.
He gazed at her quietly for a while; her features were like jade, yet a gentle tenderness lingered in her eyes.
"it is good."
Just then, a series of hurried footsteps approached.
Xie Yun's subordinate strode into the courtyard, cupped his hands, and reported: "General, the thief has been captured and is being held in the backyard. Shall we interrogate him now?"
Xie Yun nodded. "I understand."
"You go first, I'll be right behind you."
The subordinate acknowledged and withdrew. Xie Yun glanced back at Xiao Zhaoyuan and smiled, "Wait for me to return, then I'll listen to your sermons."
Xiao Zhaoyuan chuckled softly and watched her leave.
Late at night, Yunlin Temple was quiet all around, with only the sound of wind rustling through the treetops and the swaying of bamboo shadows.
Inside the room, Xiao Zhaoyuan sat cross-legged, his eyelids lowered, his fingers lightly strumming prayer beads, silently reciting Buddhist scriptures.
The incense burner was filled with the fragrance of sandalwood, and a wisp of smoke drifted in the wind.
Suddenly, he slowly opened his eyes, glanced at the sky outside the window, and realized that it was almost dusk.
She didn't come.
A subtle feeling welled up inside him, he couldn't quite put his finger on whether it was disappointment or some other emotion.
Perhaps she had something come up, or perhaps she was just being polite and saying it casually...
He looked down at the prayer beads in his palm, his fingertips slowly stroking them.
Xiao Zhaoyuan pushed open the door to the meditation room, and suddenly a glint flashed in the corner of his eye.
A figure nimbly vaulted over the wall from the other side of the courtyard.
Under the moonlight, the figure was as light as a cat, landing silently, and even patting the dust off its hands.
She looked up and immediately saw him standing in the doorway.
Xie Yun smiled at him, her eyes crinkling.
"Yunlin Temple is very quiet at night, and I didn't want to disturb the main gate, so I had to take a detour."
Moonlight spilled onto the peach trees in the backyard of Yunlin Temple, casting dappled shadows.
Xie Yun and Xiao Zhaoyuan sat side by side under the tree. A few peach petals drifted down with the wind, landing in her hair and on his monk's robe.
Xie Yun took out a few side dishes from the food box, and then took out a small wine pot, which she shook.
"I brought these on my way here. I heard that your temple is a place of austerity and vegetarianism, so I specially picked out some light dishes and also brought some plum wine to help me relax."
