Train Survival: You're really trying to survive!

Chapter 362 Exploration Under the White Mist

Chapter 362 Exploration Under the White Mist

Having obtained the information she wanted, Su Li didn't rush to leave. Instead, she chatted with Zhao Zheng for a few moments. Sun Lili, clearly uninterested in such topics, walked to the side listlessly, watching the group busily preparing the meal.

After the group had moved all their things away, Su Li picked up the zombie distribution Zhao Zheng had given her, stood up, and said, "Well then, we'll take our leave."

Zhao Zheng nodded, watching Su Li and her group board the train. The train slowly started, emitting a deep rumble, and then drove along the tracks towards the distant high-rise buildings. Zhao Zheng stood still, his gaze following the direction of the train.

Yu Fei walked up to Zhao Zheng and said hesitantly, "Captain, are we just going to let them leave like this?"

Zhao Zheng glanced at him, his tone tinged with helplessness and teasing: "What, you want to be a bandit? If I were that kind of person, would you still dare to follow me?"

Yu Fei chuckled awkwardly and scratched his head: "That's not what I meant... I meant, we could try to recruit them. With that train around, our chances of survival would definitely increase significantly."

Zhao Zheng shook his head, his gaze still fixed on the direction the train had disappeared in: "Don't think about it. My intuition tells me those people are no ordinary individuals, especially that Su Li. Recruit them? I'm afraid we're not qualified. Besides, didn't you see that cannon on their train? Do you think we can handle it?"

Upon hearing this, Yu Fei shrank back, clearly still shaken by the sight of that train cannon. Zhao Zheng patted him on the shoulder, his tone returning to seriousness: "Stop thinking about useless things. Hurry up and prepare. We'll be going to conduct the second wave of the search later. That's the important thing."

Yu Fei nodded and turned to arrange the manpower. Zhao Zheng stood there, his gaze still fixed on the distance, a vague premonition in his heart—that they and Su Li would meet again sooner or later.

Meanwhile, Su Li and his group had arrived at another high-rise building. After the train came to a smooth stop, Su Li was the first to step out of the carriage, followed closely by the others. He glanced down at the zombie distribution map in his hand and said calmly, "Now that we have the basic information about the white mist, let's go down and explore it. While we're at it, let's see if we can get a more detailed map."

Ivan took the lead, guiding his team downstairs.

There were hardly any survivors in the building, and even a handful of zombies. Su Li looked around one floor and saw obvious signs of looting.

Su Li recalled the tall building they had initially landed in. It was near the territory of a leader zombie, and Zhao Zheng and the others dared not move easily from the ground, fearing they might alert the silver-level monster. As a result, they had been trapped in that building. This building, however, was in a relatively safe location, several kilometers away from the nearest horde of zombies.

"It seems Zhao Zheng and his men have already ransacked this place," Su Li said in a low voice. "Let's hurry and get downstairs as soon as possible."

The group quickened their pace and soon entered the floor shrouded in white mist. The mist was very dense, typically covering a height of about three stories, roughly ten meters. The moment they passed through the mist, the light suddenly dimmed, as if they had stepped from the human world into a demon's lair, and the surrounding atmosphere instantly became eerie and oppressive.

The closer they got to the ground, the clearer the zombies' hoarse, low roars became, like whispers from the depths of hell, sending chills down their spines. Upon reaching the second floor, a sharp scream suddenly erupted from the depths of the corridor, followed by several festering zombies bursting out of the shadows, baring their fangs and claws as they pounced on them.

Su Li's eyes turned cold, and he swung his longsword in an instant, without even igniting a flame. The sword flashed like lightning, accurately decapitating several zombies. After the zombie corpses fell to the ground, he sheathed his sword, his tone still calm: "Continue forward."

The group arrived at the lobby on the first floor. The glass door to the lobby had been smashed, and there were half-eaten corpses on the ground, their dark bones making people feel nauseous.

Outside the lobby on the first floor, several zombies were still lingering. They must have caught a whiff of Su Li and the others' scent and were charging towards them.

These zombies, none of whom were even at the Black Iron level, posed no threat to Su Li. It was as easy as swatting a fly.

Song Mingyu looked around. "That's strange. This place has been ransacked, so why is there only one corpse here?"

"Were they eaten by other zombies?" Sun Lili guessed. "Eaten by something else? Did the white mist revive them? Or did Zhao Zheng and the others clean up the corpses?"

"I don't quite understand. There are too many mysteries surrounding this zombie virus." Song Mingyu's tone became somewhat fanatical. "I haven't figured out why the white mist gives birth to those zombie crystals that can upgrade their abilities. Could it be an ability gained from the virus's elementalization? This virus can give birth to silver-level zombies, so it must have a way of producing the energy sublimation that occurs when upgrading to silver-level. How did it do that? I'm now itching to... cough cough, sorry, I got a little carried away."

Su Li quickly dissuaded him, "Don't rush, don't rush. The experiment has already started, hasn't it? Separation, soaking, and the like. Once we've finished exploring, the preliminary preparations will be done, and you can study to your heart's content tonight."

Su Li and her group quickly left the office building and stepped into a deserted street.

Perhaps it was because of the lack of people; in just six months, the streets became severely deserted, the asphalt was cracked everywhere, and the flower beds were crooked and ugly.

The streets were lined with abandoned vehicles, some with their doors wide open, others with broken windows, and there were bloody handprints and blackened, weathered bones, as if silently telling the story of the chaos and despair that came with the apocalypse. A putrid smell permeated the air, and a white mist hung overhead like a veil, casting a hazy gray-white veil over everything around them.

Su Li looked around but didn't find any convenience stores or newsstands. There were only numerous food shops. He walked to a car that had been almost completely dismantled, likely the work of Zhao Zheng and his group.

“Let’s head north, away from Zhao Zheng. These guys are professionals at picking up trash,” Su Li said.

They hadn't gone far when Sophia suddenly stopped, raising her hand to signal everyone to halt. Her ears twitched slightly, and her sharp gaze swept ahead. "Something's wrong! A large number of zombies!"

A moment later, a low growl came from the end of the street, accompanied by chaotic footsteps, as if something was rapidly approaching.

"Small zombie horde, prepare for battle," Su Li whispered.
