Chapter 39 Famous
Chapter 39 Famous
Emily listened attentively, nodding occasionally in agreement.
Jiang Yang was very eloquent and painted a very attractive picture of the clothing store's advantages and prospects.
Emily was touched by his enthusiasm and said, "I can introduce you to my friend. Whether it works out or not depends on how you communicate."
Jiang Yang was overjoyed: "That's wonderful, thank you!"
The next day, as Jiang Yang was busy finishing up the last bit of work at the clothing store, a car horn caught his attention.
He turned his head and saw a jeep parked in front of the store. The door opened, and Emily gracefully stepped out of the car.
Behind her were three foreigners in suits, who were clearly wealthy and influential.
“Jiang Yang, let me introduce you,” Emily said, pointing to the three people behind her. “This is Mr. Smith, this is Mr. Brown, and this is Miss Jones. They are very interested in your clothing store.”
Jiang Yang quickly stepped forward and greeted them in fluent English: "Welcome to my shop. I hope you will be satisfied with my design."
Emily added from the side, "Jiang Yang's English is quite good, you can communicate directly with him."
Jiang Yang was secretly pleased with himself.
My English skills from my past life can finally come in handy!
He welcomed the group into the store, pointed to the sample garments hanging on the wall, and spoke eloquently: "These are all my latest designs, blending Eastern charm with Western fashion elements. I believe they will definitely lead the trend..."
He analyzed everything from the international economic situation to future market trends, and then to the key points of domestic economic development, which made Emily and the others nod repeatedly.
Mr. Smith adjusted his glasses and exclaimed, "Mr. Jiang's understanding of economics is truly admirable; your insight is exceptional."
Mr. Brown chimed in, "Yes, your designs are very creative, and we all have high hopes for your clothing store."
Miss Jones picked up a modified cheongsam and examined it carefully: "This dress is so beautiful, and the workmanship is exquisite. I believe many women will like it."
Jiang Yang was secretly delighted.
It seems these foreign friends are indeed very interested in his clothing store.
He then changed the subject and talked about the current predicament: "The biggest problem now is the lack of a centralized processing factory. These clothes of mine are all made in temporary places, and the sewing machines and other equipment do not have a fixed place to be stored. They are all scattered in the homes of the villagers, which is very inconvenient."
Upon hearing this, Mr. Smith immediately replied, "We'll take care of the factory!"
Jiang Yang feigned surprise: "Really? That's wonderful!"
He pressed his advantage, saying, "It would be best to build the factory in the village, because the workers are all villagers. The county town is a bit far away and transportation is inconvenient."
“No problem!” Mr. Brown readily agreed. “It can be resolved in the next few days.”
The two sides reached a cooperation agreement amidst laughter and cheers.
Jiang Yang saw Emily and her group off in the jeep, watching as the car kicked up a cloud of dust and disappeared into the distance.
He breathed a long sigh of relief, his whole body brimming with energy.
Jiang Yang began to prepare for the next steps in earnest.
Meanwhile, Su Jingtong, Xu Dan, and Wang Yu were spreading rumors that Jiang Yang handed in his college entrance exam early because he didn't know how to do it, and that after his divorce he was idle and lazy, and that not only did he hook up with Li Wen, but he also hooked up with a foreign woman.
These rumors spread like wildfire through the village and the county town.
Jiang Yang's parents were pointed at and gossiped about in the village.
"Look at that kid from the Jiang family, he handed in his exam paper early. I bet he doesn't know how to do the questions at all!"
"That's right, I heard his wife divorced him, what a disgrace!"
"I also heard that he has an improper relationship with a foreign woman, which is really immoral!"
Lin Xiulan was washing clothes at the village entrance when she heard these words, and her face turned pale and then red.
Jiang Dashan was so angry that he trembled all over. He got into a big argument with several gossiping villagers and almost came to blows.
He pointed at their noses and yelled, "Stop talking nonsense! I know what kind of person my son is! He's a hundred times better than you gossipy types!"
Jiang Yang was completely unaware of these rumors. He was busy translating the remaining manuscripts and figuring out how to use the money to improve his family's life.
Li Wen drove her Jeep to the village, intending to discuss with Zhou Qingqing the possibility of continuing to have villagers make clothes.
As soon as she got out of the car, she sensed that something was wrong.
The villagers who were once warm and welcoming are now unusually indifferent to her, and some are even pointing fingers at her.
Completely bewildered, Li Wen walked to Zhou Qingqing's door and knocked.
Zhou Qingqing opened the door, saw Li Wen, and quickly pulled her into the house.
"Wenwen, you shouldn't come to the village anytime soon," Zhou Qingqing said in a low voice.
"What's wrong?" Li Wen asked, even more puzzled.
Zhou Qingqing hesitated for a moment before saying, "The village is all talking about you hooking up with Jiang Yang, saying that Jiang Yang is your kept man."
Li Wen was stunned, and a surge of anger welled up inside her.
"This is utter nonsense. Jiang Yang and I are just business partners. Who would want to frame me like this?"
Zhou Qingqing sighed.
“Now everyone in the village believes it, so there’s no use in you explaining. I think you should stay in the village for now and go talk to Jiang Yang to see how to resolve this matter.”
……
county seat.
Jiang Yang was humming a little tune, carrying several rolls of toilet paper in his hand, walking down the street.
Business was good today, so he made a special trip to the county town to buy some shop supplies to properly decorate the clothing store.
"Hey, isn't this Jiang Yang? I heard you've hooked up with someone better?" A sarcastic voice came from the side.
Jiang Yang turned his head and saw Wang Ergou, the village's good-for-nothing, looking at him sideways.
"Wang Ergou, watch your mouth." Jiang Yang frowned.
"What? Now that you've climbed the social ladder, you look down on us peasants?" Wang Ergou grinned and sidled up to him. "I heard you've hooked up with the daughter of the director of the Industry and Commerce Bureau. Tsk tsk tsk, you're really something!"
Jiang Yang ignored him and turned to leave.
He continued walking, only to find that people around him were pointing and whispering about him. The shop owners who used to greet him warmly were now ignoring him.
Jiang Yang sensed that something was wrong.
He quickened his pace and arrived at the shop of Old Li, a carpenter with whom he had a good relationship.
"Old Li, have there been any rumors about me in the county lately?" Jiang Yang asked bluntly.
Old Li put down the gun in his hand and sighed: "Jiang Yang, you've become 'famous' lately."
"Famous? In what way will you become famous?"
"Everyone's spreading rumors that you're Li Wen's kept man, that Li Wen is seducing married men and corrupting social morals," Old Li said in a low voice. "It's all over the county."
