Chapter 38: Welcoming the Second Monthly Exam
Chapter 38: Welcoming the Second Monthly Exam
After a perilous journey through the mysterious cave and returning laden with spoils, Yuan Bao remained immersed in the wonders of the game world.
The morning light of the new week shone softly through the thin clouds onto the window. As usual, Yuan Bao sat down at his desk early and focused intently on his junior high school studies.
The knowledge in the textbooks seemed to have a magical power, attracting her to study them in depth and learn step by step. Her knowledge reserves grew rapidly, just like a sapling.
She knew that no matter how exciting the challenges and adventures in the game world were, studying was always her top priority at this stage, so she systematically absorbed knowledge every day according to her established study plan.
And so, time flew by, and soon it was Thursday morning.
After four consecutive days of checking in, I have accumulated 24 attribute points.
She quickly calculated and added 6 points to her intelligence, instantly feeling her mind work faster and solving difficult problems with ease; she added 6 points to her endurance, so that even long study sessions wouldn't be tiring; she added 6 points to her strength, making her arms and legs more powerful; she added 3 points to her luck, hoping for more good fortune in the future; and she added 3 points to her agility, making her movements more nimble.
The basic attributes have been updated to:
Game attributes: Intelligence 31, Stamina 23, Strength 26, Luck 24, Agility 20.
Real-world attributes: Intelligence 12, Stamina 9, Strength 10, Luck 10, Agility 10.
System Notes: For most people, a basic attribute score of 10 is considered A+. For every 3 points gained in each attribute in the game, the corresponding attribute in real life will increase by 1 point.
Looking at the updated data on the attribute panel, Yuan Bao felt a great sense of accomplishment, feeling that he had become much stronger.
After adjusting his basic attributes, Yuan Bao looked down at his foot, which was still wrapped in bandages, and a sly smile appeared on his lips. Pretending that his foot injury had not yet healed, he slowly walked towards the school. Today and tomorrow were the days of the second monthly exam.
At school, when the students saw Yuan Bao limping towards them, they all looked at him with concern.
Her deskmate, Wei Li, opened her eyes wide and asked anxiously, "Yuan Bao, is your foot feeling any better?"
Yuan Bao smiled and replied softly, "Much better, but I'm still having trouble walking." Actually, her foot injury had almost healed, but she didn't want to give herself away.
Wei Li pouted and tugged at Yuan Bao's arm, saying coquettishly, "I'm so lonely studying at home. No one's here to keep me company or cheer me on. When are you going back to school?"
After much deliberation, Yuan Bao decided to tell Wei Li: "Wei Li, the doctor said it will take 100 days for my foot injury to heal, so it will be at least three months. I plan not to go back to school for classes, but only to come back for the monthly exams."
"You have to believe in yourself, or you can come to my house every Saturday and we can study together! I'll cook you something delicious then, but you have to remember, you're studying for yourself, not for anyone else, understand?"
Although a little disappointed, Wei Li nodded and agreed, "Okay, I understand! I'll definitely try my best and come see you when I have time."
Just then, the exam bell rang.
Yuan Bao took a deep breath, picked up his pen, and his eyes shone with confidence and focus.
The questions on the exam paper were like familiar old friends to her. With her solid knowledge and photographic memory, she wrote furiously, answering the questions as smoothly as flowing water.
In Chinese reading comprehension, she reads ten lines at a glance and grasps all the key points; in complex mathematical calculations, she writes fluently with clear steps; in English grammar and vocabulary, she uses them with ease and writes fluently.
After finishing the Chinese and math exams in the morning, the English and physics exams followed in the afternoon. Yuan Bao was confident throughout the exams, and his answers flowed smoothly like flowing water.
Just as Yuan Bao breathed a sigh of relief after finishing the exam, Yuan Xiaogu suddenly appeared out of nowhere. With her arms crossed and a hint of mockery on her face, she walked straight toward Yuan Bao.
"Hey, Yuan Bao, haven't you been resting and studying at home all this time, hardly attending any classes? You still dare to come to take the exam today? I want to see how you do when the results are announced." Yuan Xiaogu's voice wasn't loud, but it was sharp and piercing, attracting the attention of several students nearby in the corridor.
Yuan Bao raised her eyes and glanced at her indifferently, without the slightest panic or anger in her eyes, as if the Yuan Xiaogu in front of her was just an insignificant passerby.
She knew perfectly well that Yuan Xiaogu's provocation was simply because she was afraid that if she studied at home and still got excellent grades, it would only prove that Yuan Baoya was excellent, and that she, as the teacher, was useless.
Yuan Bao was too lazy to argue with her, and simply said, "Aunt, you'll know how I did on the exam when the results come out." After saying that, he turned to leave.
Aunt Yuan, however, was relentless. She stepped forward and blocked Yuan Bao's path, saying, "Hmph, don't be too proud. I bet you'll fail this time. Don't cry then."
Yuan Bao sighed helplessly, but kept his expression indifferent: "Aunt, if you have nothing else to do, I need to go home and rest. My foot injury hasn't fully healed yet."
The students around started whispering, and someone whispered, "Teacher Yuan is going too far. She's Yuan Baoya's aunt, and she's making things difficult for Yuan Baoya even though her foot is injured."
“That’s right, Yuan Baoya is a good student, so she can definitely study at home without any problems.” These words reached Yuan Xiaogu’s ears, and her face became even more unpleasant. She snorted coldly and muttered, “We’ll see!” before storming off.
Yuan Bao watched Yuan Xiaogu's departing figure, shook his head slightly, and thought to himself, "For now, I can only try to avoid her as much as possible. After this semester ends and I skip a grade, I won't have to put up with her anymore."
So, dragging his "injured" foot, he walked home at a leisurely pace.
When Yuan Bao got home, his parents hadn't come home from get off work yet, so he quickly took out the dinner he had prepared from his storage space.
A short while later, Yuan's mother returned and asked with concern, "Baoya, how did the exam go today? Does your foot still hurt?"
Yuan Bao smiled and handed his mother a bowl and chopsticks: "Mom, I feel like I did okay on the exam, and my foot is much better now, so don't worry."
Just as he finished speaking, Mr. Yuan and his elder brother entered the room one after the other.
Mr. Yuan walked over and patted Yuan Bao on the shoulder: "Daughter, just do your best. No matter how you do on the test, don't be discouraged."
Bao Guo wasn't worried at all. He said to Yuan's parents, "Don't worry, I'm confident I won't do badly on this exam. My little sister is even more confident. You two should have faith in us." He then winked at Yuan Bao.
Then, pulling Mr. and Mrs. Yuan to sit down, he said, "Hurry up and eat, eat. Exams are very mentally and physically demanding, so you need to replenish your energy." The family sat around the dining table, enjoying a warm dinner.
Yuan Bao briefly recounted the incident of his aunt provoking him at school. Yuan's father frowned and said somewhat angrily, "Your aunt is really something, how could she treat you like that?"
Aunt Yuan gently comforted her, "Baoya, don't take it to heart. Just do your own thing."
Yuan Bao nodded obediently: "Mom and Dad, I know. I won't stoop to her level. I'm confident that my exam results won't be bad this time."
After finishing his meal, Yuan Bao returned to his room, closed the door, and immersed himself in his study space to continue his routine of practicing problems.
The next day, Aunt Yuan didn't come out to jump around, and Yuan Bao successfully completed his exam.
