Chapter 53 Night Talk and Discussion
Chapter 53 Night Talk and Discussion
On the second day after their wedding, night fell over the Prince's mansion, and the lanterns were lit, casting a soft glow on the bluestone path in the courtyard. Lin Qianqian hesitated for a moment, but her steps unconsciously led her towards the study. Reaching the study door, she paused slightly, then gently raised her hand and knocked.
"Come in." Murong Yi's deep voice came from inside the room. Lin Qianqian pushed open the door and saw Murong Yi sitting upright behind his desk, holding a book in his hand, seemingly deep in thought.
She bit her lower lip, thought for a moment, and found it hard to say. So she scratched her head, looked embarrassed, and said softly, "Your Highness, may I have a talk with you?"
Murong Yi raised his eyes, a hint of surprise flashing in them. He glanced at her, his brows furrowed in thought, then put down his book and nodded slightly. "Heh~ Go ahead." With that, he gestured for her to sit on the bench beside him.
Lin Qianqian obediently walked to the bench and sat down slowly. After hesitating for a moment, she said, "Your Highness, my father told me that on the third day after the wedding, the newlyweds are required to return to their parents' home to visit them, as a way to show filial piety." Her words were tactful, and her eyes carried a hint of expectation and unease.
Upon hearing this, Murong Yi merely raised an eyebrow and uttered a single word: "Oh?" Her tone seemed to carry a hint of indifference, yet also a touch of inquiry.
Lin Qianqian was startled, thinking that Murong Yi was unwilling to return home, so she quickly changed the subject to cover up her embarrassment. She forced a smile and said from Murong Yi's perspective, "But it's alright if Your Highness is too busy to go. I'll have Xiaodie accompany me back." She tried her best to make her tone sound relaxed and comfortable, trying not to make the other party feel uncomfortable.
Before she could finish speaking, Murong Yi replied decisively, "Okay."
Lin Qianqian was stunned, her eyes widening in disbelief. She could hardly believe her ears and instinctively asked again tentatively, "What did you just say?"
Murong Yi slightly raised his eyes, looked directly into her eyes, and said in a firm and steady tone: "I say, I will go back to the Prime Minister's residence with you!"
Lin Qianqian gazed at him, her heart filled with mixed emotions. For a moment, the room was silent, save for the flickering candlelight, its dappled light casting shadows on the two of them, seemingly telling of the subtle atmosphere and the unknown road ahead.
Lin Qianqian could hardly believe her ears. The simple word "yes" was like a thunderclap in her heart. Surprise and excitement surged into her heart instantly, making her feel as if something was stuck in her throat, and she couldn't speak for a moment.
She swallowed hard, trying to calm her turbulent emotions. After regaining her composure, she smiled gratefully and gave Murong Yi a dignified bow, saying, "Thank you, Your Highness! Well... Your Highness, please rest well! I'll take my leave now!" With that, she turned and left, her steps light as if carried by the wind, her back view radiating undisguised joy.
Murong Yi watched her departing figure, first chuckling to himself, finding the woman's reaction rather endearing, then shaking his head helplessly.
But soon, his smile faded, his brow furrowed, and he fell into deep thought. What was wrong with him? He repeatedly asked himself this question. He was certain he had no feelings for her, so why did seeing her expectant yet nervous expression make him involuntarily want to agree to her request? Why did her joys and sorrows seem to so easily sway his emotions? When did she quietly take up a place in his heart? Murong Yi let out a long sigh, trying to dispel these turbulent thoughts, but they lingered in his mind like a shadow, refusing to dissipate.
