Chapter 41 "The Old Woman": The look in your eyes when you want to strangle someone is imp
In the darkness, a Porsche 356A races along busy roads.
"Brother, I heard that Vermouth has come to Japan."
Gin didn't react much to Vodka's words, maintaining his usual poker face as he continued smoking, seemingly lost in his own world.
But soon, Gin received a phone call from Vermouth.
"Want to come to Cheers Bar? Cointreau is there too." Vermouth's voice came through the phone, still in Gin's familiar tone.
However, Gin did not ask Vermouth what she was doing at Cheers Bar, but instead focused on the statement "Cointreau is there too."
"Why did you take him to a place like that?" Gin even stopped smoking.
"I'll tell you when you get here." Vermouth remained enigmatic, and after saying this, she quickly hung up the phone.
"Tch." Gin frowned as he glanced at the packed schedule, then told Vodka to turn around and head to Cheers Bar.
Cheers Bar is a meeting place for codenamed members of the organization. There's no need to worry about being eavesdropped on in this bar, as it's equipped with dozens of signal jammers and various security measures. Even entry requires members to show their ID cards and swipe them to enter. The security is incredibly tight.
However, a bar is still a bar and is not suitable for minors, even if it is a place opened by an organization for its members to meet.
The bar was located in a rather secluded spot, and a "Closed" sign was hanging at the entrance. But Gin and Vodka knew that the "Closed" sign was just for show.
The two of them pushed the door open, at which point a man dressed as a waiter stopped them, saying that "the bar is closed," but his eyes were actually giving them a knowing look.
Gin didn't pay much attention to the waiter's offensive gesture; he knew this was the usual procedure for entering the bar.
Gin glanced inside and showed his identification card—a black card. This type of card is used by members of the organization to enter the training base and some of the organization's stores.
There were only three people in the bar: a bartender mixing drinks at the counter, a sexy blonde woman, and a boy wearing a black hoodie with two cat ears on the hood, who was leaning on the bar.
Gin immediately recognized them as Vermouth and Cointreau.
“Vermouth, I told you not to bring Cointreau to a place like this.” Gin also sat down at the bar, looking at Vermouth with an unfriendly expression.
He didn't want Jundu to drink at such a young age; if he ruined his health or his mind, it would be a major loss to the organization.
“It seems Coindus was right, you really do like to meddle in other people’s business.” Vermouth seemed intrigued, smiling as she took a sip of her martini.
“Jundo can’t drink alcohol, and that gentleman reminded you of that, right?” Gin said, squinting at Vermouth, ignoring the martini in Vermouth’s hand, and then turning his gaze to Jundo: “You agree, right, Jundo?”
Bai Yexiu, slumped on the counter, glanced at Gin and said, "Don't try to intimidate me with Father."
Today, he bumped into Vermouth, who had just gotten off the plane, and Vermouth surprisingly invited him to Cheers Bar. After going to the bar out of curiosity, Bai Yexiu declared he wanted to die.
Vermouth wouldn't let him touch a drop of alcohol, and even tempted him with drinks. She even ordered him a cup of oolong tea, which he hated the most, and... a plate of insanely spicy curry...
Cointreau: So why would you order curry at a bar?
Watching Vermouth drink in front of him, he suspected that she was deliberately trying to annoy him. However, he couldn't leave early because Vermouth said she had important matters to discuss with Gin and Vodka.
He hasn't touched a drop of alcohol these past few days because he's run out of disguise materials and can't go to the bar dressed as a chained man to drink his favorite cocktail.
The department within the organization that provides disguise materials has recently run into some trouble and won't be able to provide any more materials until the end of this week. So, he won't be able to enjoy his favorite cocktails anytime soon.
"I didn't expect our little one to become so tough." Vermouth playfully tugged at the cat ears on Cointreau's hood, recalling the scene in her mind when ten-year-old Cointreau was trembling with fear when he first met Gin.
"You're teasing me again." Jundu slapped Vermouth's hand away, his tone carrying a hint of arrogance for some reason. "Don't touch me."
Vermouth looked at Cointreau with a smile, increasingly feeling that Cointreau was like a proud and aloof pet cat.
With black hair, black clothes, and a pair of unique and bright amber eyes, he gives the impression of a black cat that might suddenly attack at any moment.
The hoodie's material felt fuzzy to the touch, which is why Vermouth seemed to really enjoy touching the cat ears.
"Alright, what is it? Speak up, or I'm taking Jundo away," Gin said impatiently. Meanwhile, Vodka, who had an almost invisible presence, silently sipped his tea.
He's going to drive soon, so he can't drink alcohol, otherwise he'll be caught by the police for drunk driving.
“Alright, let’s get down to business.” Vermouth leaned against the bar, her curvaceous figure radiating a subtle fragrance. “The FBI has been making moves lately.”
"So what?" Jun Du yawned, slumped over the table.
Seeing this, Gin warned, "Get serious, Jundo."
Unexpectedly, Bai Yexiu yawned again: "Qin-chan, why are you acting like an old woman?"
Old mother.
Upon hearing this, Vermouth choked on the wine she had just drunk before it went down her trachea, causing her to cough. Vodka nearly spat out the tea in his mouth.
No one in the organization had ever dared to call Gin a "mother hen," but Byakuya Xiu took the lead in doing so.
Gin: You can't hide the look in someone's eyes when they want to strangle them.
Gin didn't speak, but his eyes were filled with murderous intent as he tactically took a sip of water.
Vermouth composed herself and continued, "Several of our members who remained in the United States were arrested by the FBI, and it seems that one of them has confessed. What we know now is that the FBI is coming to Japan soon, and they are currently investigating Cointreau."
Both Bai Yexiu and Gin became interested and looked at Vermouth with curiosity, urging her to continue.
“After all, Cointreau came to Japan because of a certain undercover agent, and the FBI might have been in charge of investigating that chaotic battle. It’s not surprising that the investigation led to Cointreau.” Vermouth’s expression remained unchanged as she carefully explained.
Bai Yexiu raised his hand: "I have a question. After that brawl, I dealt with everyone who knew I lived in that apartment. I want to know what the FBI found out?" He was unusually interested, after all, this matter involved him.
Vermouth changed her posture, resting one hand on the counter, her alluring figure displaying a seductive curve.
"They found out through that undercover agent that there was someone in the organization codenamed 'Jundu,' but they didn't know what you looked like. So you're still relatively safe. That gentleman asked a few of us to clean up anything you left abroad and to cover for you during this time so you don't get targeted by the FBI."
Bai Yexiu remained unfazed upon hearing that the FBI was investigating him: "What do I need to do?" His only concern was whether he could slack off this time. Even if he became a suspect, he was confident he could shake off the FBI's suspicions.
But the prerequisite is that the FBI has to find him, which is almost impossible.
Only a few people in the organization—that man, Gin, Vodka, Vermouth, and Bourbon—knew his code name and true appearance. Of course, these people would never leak his information.
As for Bourbon, he's a member of the Public Security Bureau and would never leak information to the FBI. Besides, as long as Bai Yexiu keeps Bourbon under tight control, even the Public Security Bureau won't know what Jundu looks like.
"All you have to do is hide yourself and not arouse the FBI's suspicion." Vermouth downed her martini in one gulp.
Oh, I see. So you're just staying home and doing nothing, right?
Bai Yexiu successfully grasped the main point and gave Vermouth an OK sign.
Isn't it just staying home and doing nothing? Isn't that something anyone can do?
Vermouth was completely unaware that Byakuya had misunderstood him, as was Gin.
