Chapter 109 Qi Xiang Family's Dried Radish
Chapter 109 Qi Xiang Family's Dried Radish
On a winter morning, the cold wind howled, causing passersby to crane their necks and hurry forward, trying to escape the cold by running into enclosed spaces.
Inside a resident's home in Hualou Community, Wang Ying was dragged out of bed by her mother.
“Tell me what’s going on, you just sleep at home all day long. Look, it’s 10 a.m. and you still haven’t gotten up. You haven’t even eaten breakfast. At least eat breakfast before you go back to sleep.”
"It's so bad for your health. You stay up all night playing on your phone every day. I can't take it anymore. You have to get up today and go for a walk with me. I think you'll get moldy if you stay in this warm bed any longer."
"Mom," Wang Ying wanted to pull her sister back from her mother's grasp so she could continue sleeping under the covers, but how could a fragile college student like her compete with the strength of her mother, who was used to doing chores?
Ultimately, her efforts ended in failure.
She got out of bed resentfully, dressed, and sat up weakly. "Mom, can't you let me sleep a little longer? You're not going to work today anyway."
She had finally waited for the weekend, how could we disturb her sleep?
"I told you to sleep in, but I didn't wake you until 10 o'clock. Why don't you come out for a walk with me?"
Hearing her mother say that, Wang Ying had no choice but to follow her outside.
However, her resentment dissipated a lot after she came out. After all, it was quite fun to go out and have some delicious food, and her mother didn't say anything to her.
As the two were walking, they suddenly saw a large supermarket having a promotion. Mom patted Wang Ying on the shoulder and said, "It looks like they're having a promotion. Let's go in and take a look. Maybe we can find some discounts."
"Okay," Wang Ying followed her mother inside, and they carried a trolley as they went in.
My mom mainly looked at daily necessities and vegetables. She felt that she could buy these things herself, but she preferred to buy snacks and fruits.
She randomly picked two cartons of yogurt from the shelf, then bought some fruit, and finally wandered into the snack section.
I looked around and decided to get some spicy strips, potato chips, candy, and dried tofu—all in one bag. I can eat them while watching TV at home. I also grabbed a few drinks; I can chill them and make homemade beverages later.
However, after taking the items, Wang Ying noticed that the pickled mustard tubers had also been hung up there.
"Why are pickled mustard tubers hanging here too? But I actually quite like these dried radishes."
Wang Ying took a packet of dried radish. She first checked the production date and found it to be very fresh. Then she looked at the brand and saw that it was from Qixiang. However, it had the words "Premium Research and Development" written on it, which was not found on other dried radish.
Upon closer inspection of the prices, it was discovered that a pack cost five yuan, while the regular packs were only one yuan and fifty cents each.
"What's going on? Why is there such a big difference? Is there some kind of magic to it?"
She remembered this brand from when she was in boarding school in high school. Sometimes when she didn't like the food in the cafeteria, she would buy some of these pickled vegetables to go with it. Her favorite was the dried radish, which was from Qixiang.
Moreover, having consumed their products for so many years, the quality is still guaranteed; it's not some cheap, low-quality product.
With the filter from before and her curiosity about dried radish as a base, Wang Ying directly took two bags and put them in the cart, one ordinary bag and one premium bag.
She planned to go back and try it out; it would be perfect to eat with leftover rice or porridge.
Wang Ying happily bought a lot of things and met up with her mother. When her mother saw that she had bought a lot of snacks, she couldn't help but grumble, "Look at you, you bought such a big bunch of snacks again. You'll eat them all and then not eat your meals."
"Oh my god, if I can't finish it, I'll just take it to school."
The school she applied to was in the city, even closer to her home than her high school, so she usually came back on weekends.
Mom sighed helplessly, "Fine, fine, bring it over and I'll pay."
"Haha, thank you, Mom." Wang Ying happily handed over the things. It was another day without having to spend her own living expenses, which couldn't be more wonderful.
After shopping, the two returned home with bags full of things. As soon as Wang Ying put the things down, her mother asked her to wash the vegetables.
It was just the two of them at home at noon, so they could just grab something to eat.
Wang Ying got up and started peeling potatoes without complaint. She could tell that her mother just didn't want her to be idle and wanted her to get moving.
After peeling the potatoes, Wang Ma sliced them and made a potato and meat stir-fry, along with a stir-fried vegetable dish, and that was it.
She brought the dishes to the table and instructed Wang Ying to scoop out the rice.
Wang Ying opened the rice cooker. Since there were only two people, she put very little rice in the rice cooker, just a little over one bowl per person.
She scooped two more bowls of rice and placed them on the table. Seeing the pickled vegetables on the table, she remembered that she had also bought dried radish today, so she simply got up and took the two packets of dried radish.
She first squeezed out the so-called premium dried radish, intending to taste it.
"Mom, this is the dried radish I bought today. It's from the same store I used to eat at in high school. It tastes pretty good. Try it."
Wang's mother casually picked up a piece of pickled radish. "You should have told me earlier if you wanted some. I know a place that specializes in pickled vegetables. Their pickled vegetables are all pretty good. I'll buy you some. They're cheaper than these supermarket-packaged ones."
"He stopped talking after he finished eating all the dried radish."
Wang Ying didn't pay much attention to what her mother was saying, because she was already enjoying the delicious dried radish.
Wang's mother carefully chewed the dried radish in her mouth, her eyes shining brighter with each chew. "Xiaoying, this dried radish is so delicious! You used to eat it all the time in high school. Why didn't you bring some for your mother?"
Wang Ying was also surprised. The two of them kept picking up another piece with their chopsticks, and then she said, "No, Mom, what I ate before was not this delicious at all. This is on a completely different level."
A packet of dried radish wasn't much; it was gone in no time for two people, but it was clear they weren't quite satisfied.
So Wang Ying opened the remaining packet of regular dried radish, and the two of them hurriedly ate it.
But once I tasted it, I realized something was wrong. The taste was indeed okay, but it couldn't compare to the one I had just eaten.
"No, no, it's far from good enough." Wang Ying shook her head regretfully.
Wang's mother also expressed some regret, "You only bought these two packs? Didn't you buy any more?"
Wang Ying also regretted it, saying, "At the time, I saw that it was much more expensive and didn't think it was worth it. I thought I would just buy it to try it out."
"Oh well, let's eat first, you can go buy some more this afternoon."
"Mmm," Wang Ying nodded, secretly vowing to buy at least one case this time.
