Chapter 47 Adjusting Equipment
Chapter 47 Adjusting Equipment
Lin Yun played with them a few times and then stopped. Back in the army, they trained with real guns and ammunition, and he wasn't quite used to practicing shooting through games. He always felt like he was playing, not training. Qin Yuan, however, had a lot of fun. In several team matches, he and Lin Yun's team completely dominated the other five players, making them want to give up.
After Lin Yun stopped playing, the situation completely reversed. Pei Sihao, the sharpshooter among the five, and Gu Nanfeng, the commander-in-chief, led the other three to surround Qin Yuan and kill him several times. The group immediately stopped being so withdrawn.
After playing around for a while, Lu Yuan, Yang Xiao, and Zhong Qiang, who were terrible at shooting, sought out Qin Yuan and Lin Yun for one-on-one instruction and seriously began to learn shooting skills.
After an afternoon of practice, Lu Yuan felt his shooting accuracy had improved significantly, while Yang Xiao and Zhong Qiang were still practicing on the side. However, he had other tasks to complete. He walked to the dining table next to him and began taking things out of his spatial storage. Qin Yuan noticed it was already six o'clock and assumed Lu Yuan was preparing dinner, so he thought he would come up to help and sneak a bite beforehand. But when he came closer, he was completely dumbfounded.
"Lu Xiaoyuan, did you...did you raid an armory?" Qin Yuan was speechless when he saw the various melee weapons and different types of crossbows on the table.
Through this afternoon of practice, Lu Yuan realized that everyone's feel and strength are different. It is definitely not as good as having the same weapon as everyone else. For example, he could clearly see that Pei Sihao did not feel comfortable using the crossbow that Yang Xiao and the others had chosen, and he himself would get tired after holding it for a long time.
"Holy crap, you guys are raiding an armory!" Lu Yuan was still taking things out—bows and arrows, knives, swords, spears, darts, hidden arrows, concealed weapons, you name it, and they all looked to be of high quality and sharpened. It really did seem like they'd raided an armory, and one they'd traveled to ancient times to do so. After all, Qin Yuan couldn't find a single merchant in the entire G province who could make so many kinds of weapons and have such a large stock.
Lu Yuan glanced at Qin Yuan, who hadn't even taken out his firearms yet, so adhering to the principle of not explaining if he couldn't, he remained silent. At this moment, the other five people also gathered around. He pointed to the pile of weapons on the table and said, "Most of them are laid out. Everyone can pick the ones that are convenient for you."
Pei Sihao and Gu Nanfeng were the first to pick out equipment. The crossbow that Pei Sihao had picked up earlier was something Yang Xiao and Zhong Qiang had temporarily chosen at the entrance of the prefabricated vegetable factory, and he didn't find it very handy. Gu Nanfeng, on the other hand, went straight to the research lab once they arrived at the base. They didn't want to attract too much attention at the base, so they hadn't picked out any other equipment for him.
Seeing that Pei Sihao and Gu Nanfeng had already tried it out, the others didn't stand on ceremony. They browsed the table, selecting items like they were picking out vegetables at a market. Finally, Pei Sihao returned the somewhat awkward crossbow to Lu Yuan and chose a light bow and arrow, the kind he had learned to use at home and was quite comfortable with. He kept his Tang sword for melee combat; he had practiced with it whenever he had free time and was now quite proficient at it.
Gu Nanfeng chose two lightweight one-handed crossbows. It is said that people with high IQs can shoot with both hands, and there is indeed truth to that. Gu Nanfeng's melee weapon is still the Tang sword, but he changed it to one that is more suitable for his own hand.
Before long, everyone had chosen their desired weapons, and Lu Yuan handed them out one by one, putting away any unused ones into his spatial storage. He then acquired a lightweight crossbow and a Tang sword for himself. His previous Tang sword was too heavy; although he had been training diligently with Zhong Qiang and Yang Xiao for the past two months, he still found himself breathless after just a few swings.
Unlike the others, Lu Yuan had also kept a hidden arrow for himself. This thing was used by strapping it to the wrist. Everyone had studied it earlier, but they really didn't know how to use this ancient weapon. It felt quite different from what was described in the novels. However, it was not easy to experiment in the room. Moreover, considering the high temperature of 40 or 50 degrees Celsius outside, and having to strap such a thing to the wrist, they didn't want it for the time being.
As for protective gear, since the weather is too hot now, they all choose not to wear it for the time being. After all, it would be too embarrassing if they were fully dressed and then suffered heatstroke within minutes of going out.
Finally, Lu Yuan gave each of them five of the defensive shield orbs they had used yesterday. Based on yesterday's combat experience, the defensive shields released by these little gadgets could last for about 3 minutes, making them a true lifesaver.
Qin Yuan and Lin Yun, having personally received the device, knew at a glance that this life-saving gadget, brimming with advanced technology and ruthless craftsmanship, was definitely not something Gu Nanfeng had concocted out of boredom, as they had previously claimed. However, they didn't ask; asking wouldn't yield any results. Nevertheless, they roughly knew that even the National Weapons Research Institute in Beijing was likely still in the early stages of researching such equipment.
They gradually packed some more wound medicine, as well as essential summer items like cooling balm and Huoxiang Zhengqi Water. Now their basic equipment was complete. All they needed to do before heading out was pack compressed biscuits and water.
After all the preparations were completed, it was already past 8 PM, a late but still welcome dinner time. At Pei Sihao and Yang Xiao's insistence, it was another hot pot feast. However, there would be no ice-cold beer today; after all, they were going out to work tomorrow and couldn't afford to just sit around and eat their savings away.
They were drinking iced soda, eating spicy hot pot, and chatting. Suddenly, the atmosphere between Qin Yuan and Lin Yun became tense. Lu Yuan was the first to notice; he saw that Lin Yun was still holding the base's walkie-talkie. He didn't know what they were talking about that caused them to suddenly fall silent, and he immediately gave Gu Nanfeng and the others a meaningful look.
Gu Nanfeng also noticed the walkie-talkie in Lin Yun's hand. He knew it hadn't rung all day, at least not during the dozen or so hours they'd been together. He wondered if the base had assumed something had happened to them since they hadn't returned all day, or if the base had simply abandoned them from the moment they left.
After all, the families of Pei Sihao and Gu Nanfeng, who learned today that they were no longer at the base, made satellite phone calls to confirm their safety. However, the base did not ask Qin Yuan and Lin Yun whether they were safe or not.
Realizing he was disrupting the mealtime atmosphere, Lin Yun put away his walkie-talkie and patted Qin Yuan, who was still lost in thought. The two smiled awkwardly and then joined in the feasting. Lu Yuan and the others also chatted to ease the tension while adding meat to the hot pot.
After dinner, Lu Yuan and the others took charge of cleaning up, while Gu Nanfeng was chosen to be in charge of the mental health of the team's two key members, since none of the others could handle this task.
After Lu Yuan and the others had finished cleaning up the dining table and washing up, they sat in a row on the sofa in the living room. Gu Nanfeng, Qin Yuan, and Lin Yun then came out of their room. No one knew how Gu Nanfeng had comforted them, but the two of them seemed to be in much better spirits now.
The group sat together to check their cached park maps and set a departure time for the next day before returning to their rooms to rest.
Once the noise in the living room subsided, Lu Yuan quietly crept into Pei Sihao's room and then called Gu Nanfeng through the three-person secret channel on the walkie-talkie. He took out two handguns from his spatial storage and handed them to the two of them. He didn't know anything about firearms, and they couldn't reveal that they possessed firearms for the time being. These handguns were the only ones in his storage space, and being smaller, they were easier to store, so he chose these.
“Sure, they’re Desert Eagles.” Pei Sihao is a military family member and had handled guns a few times with his father when he was a child. His family also has many books on firearms. All three brothers in his family had to learn about them from a young age, so he could tell at a glance what model these two pistols were.
“This is the smallest one in the space.” Lu Yuan stuck out his tongue. Gu Nanfeng hadn’t seen him be so mischievous in a long time, and he missed it quite a bit.
"We'll keep it safe. It's getting late, so get some rest." Gu Nanfeng couldn't resist ruffling Lu Yuan's soft hair after saying that, and Pei Sihao followed suit, ruffling it a couple of times as well.
After leaving Pei Sihao's room, the two went back to their respective rooms to sleep. Before entering his room, Gu Nanfeng glanced at Lu Yuan again. Two months ago, this adorable child was still worrying about his father's medical expenses, but now he has indeed grown up a lot.
