Chapter 1708 Worries
Chapter 1708 Worries
Xiao Mei and Nan Weiwei were playfully bickering when suddenly, a cell phone rang urgently.
Xiao Mei reacted the fastest. She sprang up from the sofa, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Nan Weiwei and urged, "Weiwei, answer the phone! It's so late, it might be something important!"
Nan smiled slightly as she picked up her phone from the sofa. When she saw Nan Yifeng's number on the screen, her fingers paused slightly, and a hint of hesitation flashed in her eyes.
After a few seconds, Nan Wei took a deep breath and pressed the answer button.
On the other end of the phone, Nan Yifeng skipped the pleasantries and went straight to the point: "Weiwei, I saw you leave Fu Yanchen's restaurant. You should be home by now."
His voice carried an undeniable certainty, as if he knew Nan Weiwei's whereabouts perfectly well.
Nan Wei frowned slightly: "Spying on me?"
Nan Yifeng: "No, Lin Nuo saw you and was going to give you a free meal, but you've already left. Where are you now?"
"I'm with Xiaomei."
Nan Yifeng on the other end of the phone seemed to be stunned for a moment, then his voice rose a few decibels, and he said with a hint of accusation, "Why don't you come home? I remember we made up, and it was me who suggested breaking up this time."
There was a hint of anxiety in his voice.
Nan Weiwei sighed softly, stood up from the sofa, walked to the window, looked at the flashing neon lights outside, and slowly said, "Nan Yifeng, I just wanted to get together with Xiaomei. Besides, I pay rent for this place, and I have my own social circle."
She didn't want to be completely bound by Nan Yifeng just because they made up.
Nan Yifeng was silent for a moment on the other end of the phone, then his voice softened as he said, "Weiwei, I don't mean to restrict your freedom. I'm just worried about you and want you to come home so I can take care of you."
His tone carried a hint of helplessness and indulgence as he tried to explain his actions.
Nan Weiwei's heart skipped a beat. She could feel the concern in Nan Yifeng's words, but she still didn't want to give in easily. She bit her lip and said, "Nan Yifeng, I know you mean well, but I'm not a child anymore. I can take care of myself. I'll stay at Xiaomei's place tonight, and I'll go back tomorrow."
Nan Yifeng was silent for a while on the other end of the phone, then said, "Okay, Weiwei, since you've made up your mind, I won't force you. But you must take good care of yourself, and call me anytime if anything happens."
Nan Weiwei's lips curled up slightly, revealing a relieved smile, and she said, "Don't worry, Nan Yifeng, I will. You should also get some rest and not overwork yourself. Don't drive after drinking too much."
Her voice carried a hint of gentleness and concern, which gradually calmed Nan Yifeng's heart.
"How did you know I drank? Were you spying on me too?" Nan Yifeng's tone wasn't unhappy; instead, it carried a hint of... excitement.
"I have my own ways of knowing, anyway, if you do anything to betray me, I'll find out. Bye, goodnight."
After hanging up the phone, Nan Weiwei turned and went back to the living room. Xiao Mei was looking at her curiously and asked, "Weiwei, what did Nan Yifeng say? Is he angry again?"
Nan smiled and shook her head, then sat down next to Xiaomei and said, "No, he was just worried about me and told me to take care of myself. I've already told him I'll stay here with you tonight."
The lingering warmth from the two girls' playful banter still gently rippled in the air.
Xiao Mei yawned, stretched, mumbled "Goodnight," and wobbled back to her room.
Nan Weiwei also felt a little sleepy. She got up to wash up, and her eyes inadvertently swept over her phone on the coffee table. A series of missed call notifications on the screen made her pause slightly.
She picked up her phone and looked closely; all the calls were from Ye Junhao.
Nan Weiwei frowned slightly, a hint of doubt rising in her heart. What could he want from her so late at night? Without even washing up, she lightly tapped her finger and called him back.
Ye Junhao's deep, slightly anxious voice came quickly from the other end of the phone: "Weiwei, you finally called back. I was so worried."
Nan Wei was slightly taken aback and subconsciously asked, "What's wrong? What happened?"
Ye Junhao breathed a sigh of relief and said, "It's nothing serious. I just wanted to make sure you got home. I was really worried because you weren't answering the phone. If you didn't call back soon, I was going to call the police."
His voice carried a hint of lingering fear, as if Nan Weiwei had truly encountered some danger.
Nan Weiwei felt a warmth in her heart, and the corners of her mouth unconsciously turned up slightly. She said, "I'm sorry, Ye Junhao, I was chatting with Xiaomei just now and didn't notice my phone. I'm sorry to have worried you." Her voice was gentle, with a hint of apology.
After a brief moment of warmth, some questions suddenly surfaced in Nan Weiwei's mind.
Ye Junhao's concern for me seems to go beyond the scope of ordinary friendship. What is his purpose in approaching me?
Once this thought popped into her head, it was like a seed taking root and sprouting in her heart, making it impossible for her to ignore.
Nan Weiwei took a deep breath, her eyes hardening. She stopped hiding her intentions and asked directly, "Ye Junhao, what... is your purpose in approaching me?"
His voice carried an undeniable seriousness.
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, as if Ye Junhao was stumped by the question.
Nan Weiwei's heart also jumped. She gripped her phone tightly, waiting for Ye Junhao's reply.
After a while, Ye Junhao chuckled softly and said slowly, "Weiwei, why are you asking this? Do you think I have some ulterior motives towards you?"
Nan Weiwei didn't speak, but listened quietly. She knew that what Ye Junhao was about to say would be very important.
Ye Junhao paused for a moment, then continued, "Actually, I didn't have any complicated motives for approaching you. From the first time I saw you, I was attracted by your unique temperament. You are kind, sincere, and optimistic, like a ray of light shining into my life. I wanted to get closer to you, understand you, and become a part of your life, but unfortunately... you're already taken."
Nan Weiwei's heart skipped a beat; she hadn't expected Ye Junhao to express his feelings so directly.
She seemed a little flustered. After a moment of silence, she said, "Ye Junhao, thank you for your appreciation. However, I have a boyfriend."
Ye Junhao said softly on the other end of the phone, "Weiwei, I know that feelings can't be forced. It's my right to like you, and it's your right to reject me. I just hope you know that I will always be by your side, waiting for you silently."
Nan Weiwei's lips curled into a grateful smile as she said, "Thank you, Ye Junhao. Your understanding touches me deeply. Let's be good friends." Ye Junhao smiled and replied, "Of course, Weiwei. No matter what, you'll always be my most important friend."
After hanging up the phone, Nan Weiwei stood by the window, gazing at the night view outside, her mind filled with countless thoughts.
Ye Junhao's confession surprised her. Did he really only like her?
