Chapter 4734 X Royal Family: New Life (Thirteen)
“What’s going on with this island?” Steve frowned as he stood by the window. Outside, Krakia remained lush and green. After the storm, the sky was cloudless. Water droplets clinging to the plants resembled scattered diamonds, bathing everything in a hazy glow. With the small animals out and about again, rustling sounds filled the woods and bushes. Leaves swayed gently, shaking off dewdrops, which, before even hitting the ground, had vanished.
However, beneath this beautiful scene lurks a deadly danger. Although Stark's physique isn't as good as these superhumans, he's still considered quite strong among ordinary people.
He has a professional nutrition team to improve his diet; he gets regular checkups so any health problems aren't delayed; and he has a professional medical team to protect him, with all kinds of medical resources at his disposal. He also exercises regularly, and all his physical indicators are far above average. Yet, even so, he was still affected by Krakia.
An island completely inaccessible to ordinary people. This might be a good thing for mutants, but it also brings trouble. For example, right now, because Stark is ill, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s planned three-day expedition has been shortened to one and a half days. Neither S.H.I.E.L.D. nor Clarkia can afford to let Director Zheng Xian get into trouble on the island; that would be a major disaster.
Magneto, who had just returned, was also troubled by this matter. Because he wanted to develop more trading partners, he would inevitably have to invite people to visit Clarkia Island. Although in theory, a day or two wouldn't cause any problems, if something did happen, Clarkia's prospects in the international community would be ruined.
However, Magneto first sought out Schiller. Seeing Schiller enter his office, he said, "I am very sorry, Dr. Rodriguez. We may have underestimated the island's impact on ordinary people, which hurt your friend. Please don't hesitate to ask us to express our apologies or offer compensation in any way you wish."
Schiller took a deep breath, walked over and sat down, then said, "The problem now is that, given the current situation, the most important thing we should do is get him out of here as soon as possible. However, Tony is a man of his word; he promised to help and has his own plans, so he won't give up easily."
“This time, he just had a common cold, nothing serious, and his fever had gone down. He didn’t want to appear like a rich man who was afraid of dying, so he was even more reluctant to leave. Neither I nor my other friends could persuade him.”
"Now, the way to get him to leave Clarkia as soon as possible is for you to meet his expectations quickly. But we all know that's impossible. Whether it's developing industry or agriculture, it takes time. Even just building a framework will take at least ten days to two weeks. Nobody knows if his health will deteriorate during this process."
"So the best way now is for you to find a way to keep him safely on this island until he finishes what he wants to do. I will do my best to help you find one. The method I can think of right now is to have him wear the armor as much as possible. That nanotech suit isn't in the way, and it's fine for him to wear it all the time. He has agreed to that."
"But you also need to understand that, in any universe and in any country, a fully armed Iron Man is intimidating. Our universe's version is even more so. Wearing armor makes it difficult to project a friendly image, which might make it harder for him to interact with mutants. Not to mention, you want other countries to visit? How do you think they'd feel seeing a fully armed Iron Man flying towards them?"
"Hiring people from the central universe always comes at a cost, but not this kind of cost. It's a completely pointless waste that harms both sides and benefits no one. We should avoid such things from happening as much as possible."
"If you have any good ideas, please bring them up as soon as possible and then try to implement them. If the situation does not improve, we will have to consider the evacuation plan."
Magneto was completely taken aback by Schiller's calm and rational communication, and his comprehensive consideration of the situation. It seemed Schiller genuinely wanted to resolve the issue, and wasn't just there to vent his frustrations.
What he said makes a lot of sense. Wearing a mech suit might be acceptable, but it's not the best method. No other reason is needed; the simple statement that "Iron Man in the central universe isn't used to it" suffices.
They're here to help and provide guidance, so we should prioritize their habits. If they're not used to wearing mechs, we should try our best to avoid making them wear them, instead of brushing it off with a simple "it won't hurt to wear one." Even if they eventually have to wear one, we should at least try our best; it's a matter of attitude.
This could indeed frighten foreign guests. Especially since Iron Man from the central universe has already appeared before the Earth government during the lab battle, and his power is undeniable. If he appears on the island in this manner, the foreign guests will know that no security measures can possibly work against him.
The first group of foreign guests was fine; since they were already there, they probably wouldn't leave immediately. But the group they were supposed to be hosting wasn't a single one, and the others had no obligation to keep their identities secret. If the first group left and then widely publicized that the terrifying Iron Man was waiting on the island fully armed, then the subsequent groups simply wouldn't come.
The mutants' attitudes aren't too much of a problem. Although the people from the main universe didn't leave a good impression on them, they can easily distinguish between the different mechs and shouldn't show any ill will towards Iron Man from the central universe. If all else fails, they can just have the mutants avoid them.
“That is indeed a problem,” Magneto said. “We do have a solution here, but I’m not sure if you can accept it.”
"What solution?" Schiller asked.
“You should have heard of the Krakia Flower,” Magneto said, picking up a flower from the side. “It’s a special medicine that works only on humans. Eating this flower can cure most diseases and also create a subtle connection with the Krakia totem, which might make the island less hostile to him.”
Schiller frowned deeply. He finally understood why Magneto had asked if the method was acceptable; in fact, the method was inherently difficult for people to accept.
Firstly, the Clara Flower is a herb, and there has been no pharmacological or pathological research on it. The mutants simply discovered its effects and used it. They had absolutely no idea what the side effects or long-term effects might be.
Research on the extract has only just begun, and it's impossible to see results so quickly. In other words, everything about this herb is completely unknown. As for its positive effects, such as curing diseases, that's another story. Whether its association with the Krakya totem is good or bad is anyone's guess.
Stark doesn't plan to stay here permanently; he's just here for tourism and helping out on the side. Establishing contact with the Krakia totem might help him avoid the island's rejection, but if it has any other purpose, it would be a huge problem.
Schiller sighed, looking somewhat troubled. There was another problem: Stark's anxiety. Although he seemed completely recovered, eating this kind of unknown substance was tantamount to self-harm for someone with anxiety.
If he experiences excessive psychological stress after taking it and exhibits somatization symptoms, it would be impossible to determine whether he was poisoned by the herbs or if it was a problem with his own condition. If he were to implicate Clarkia, it would truly be counterproductive.
“I have an idea,” Magneto continued. “The human scientists who have been staying in Clarkia for quite some time now have medical checkups showing that most of them are in poor health. One female scientist has an endometrial abnormality, and another male scientist has mild meningitis. Before sending them away, we can give them the Clarkia Flower for treatment. This way, we can do them a favor and also use them for experiments to see if there are any serious side effects.”
Schiller paused. He thought about it; it really was a good idea. Not that it was a particularly rigorous experimental procedure, but it would certainly be enough to convince Stark that it could solve his psychological problems.
As for the physical issues, Schiller believed that there weren't any major problems. Firstly, he had seen the Krakya Flower and the totem, which weren't particularly evil; secondly, no matter how powerful the totem was, it couldn't possibly break through the cosmic barrier, and once back in the central universe, that connection wouldn't be a concern.
“Alright, let’s do it this way.” Schiller nodded and said, “But where are you going to send these scientists?”
“We are preparing to extradite them to the S.P.A.R.S ...
Schiller nodded again; it was indeed a smart move. He just didn't know how Charles had convinced S.H.I.E.L.D. to take over these people—that was a small but significant problem.
Magneto seemed to sense Schiller's confusion and lowered his voice, saying, "After this incident, many scientists are considering seeking refuge in China. They're not stupid; they know they can't survive in the West, and the government will definitely cause them trouble. Seeking refuge in the East is a good option. S.H.I.E.L.D. is probably taking a gamble to see if they can keep a few. These are all invaluable talents. If they weren't truly unable to stay on the island, the mutants wouldn't have been willing to let them leave."
Schiller understood; these scientists were probably a perfect match for S.H.I.E.L.D. Their knowledge and skills were a double-edged sword. Today they needed to deal with mutants, so they captured them; tomorrow they needed to deal with other mutants, so they'd capture them again. This couldn't go on forever.
Those who want to escape their old friends have no choice but to go to a completely new environment where the other cannot interfere. Krakia is a good place, but it's still not very suitable for ordinary humans. China is much better. Although it's also a completely new cultural environment, at least safety is guaranteed, and languages and such can be learned again, so it's not a big problem for these people.
“In that case, let’s hurry up.” Schiller sighed softly. “I’m not trying to rush you, it’s just that Tony hasn’t been sleeping well lately and keeps having nightmares. I have to go into his dreams to rescue him frequently. You don’t want to know what I’ve been through.”
